TS Lowry

17th Nov 2021

P7 have been looking at the artist TS Lowry.

Born during Victorian times, TS Lowry became famous for his simplistic, yet powerful, paintings depicting the hardships working class people endured in the Northern towns and cities of England.

Mrs Lyons informs me that the song, 'Matchstick men and matchstick cats and dogs' was written to describe how he painted characters in his paintings.

However, the real message behind the paintings was the smoke bellowing from the chimneys. Although a little more subtle than our Greta, Lowry was trying to highlight the pollution this was causing and the impact it would have on our environment.

A message that still seems to be lost on some of our world leaders to this day.
