P7 Leaving Assembly

26th Jun 2017

This is the date Miss Childs always marks in her calendar first thing on returning from her summer holidays as it is her favourite day of the year! :-)

All joking aside, there is always a tinge of sadness as the P7 class come to the end of their Sunnylands experience.

They sang and danced beautifully as the parents and staff alike were treated to an extravaganza of entertainment.

Although they all received their end of year achievements folder, some very important awards were handed out too. Emma Johnston received an award for outstanding contribution to the choir, Justin Waite was awarded Footballer of the Year and Justin Irwin received the Patterson Cup for his all round academic and overall contribution to the school community.

However, there was also a very important award presented this year in memory of Mr Paul Neill who recently passed away. Paul had been the Building Supervisor at the school until recently. Although this was his daytime job, everyone knew that Paul's passion was football even if he supported some dodgy teams! Paul took a very keen interest in the school football team and the development of the players. Consequently, Mr Hamilton felt it would be a fitting tribute to present a Paul Neill Cup to the boy or girl who represented the team with the qualities Paul always admired in the players he coached; a desire to improve and be an all round team player. The very worthy winner of this prestigious trophy was Kyle Moore. I am very confident Paul would have approved. It was also nice to have Paul's wife Gail and his daughter Hayley there to present the award.

So there it is. As the boys and girls head off to pastures new we wish them all the best and we know wherever they 'land' in September, Sunnylands will always be part of who they are.
