Measuring the Weather 🌧️🍃🌬️
29th Jan 2026
In Forest School, Primary 3 have been learning about measuring the weather!
We have explored lots of different weather instruments, such as thermometers for measuring temperature, and a barometer for measuring air pressure! 🌡️
Last week, we created our own rain gauges to track the rain fall! We used a plastic bottle to collect the rain, and then created a scale up the side using a ruler! Finally, we selected the perfect place in the school garden to place them- where they wouldn’t blow over or be sheltered by the trees! ☔️
This week, we created our own wind socks to measure the direction the wind is blowing! We followed the instructions to attach our bag to the hoop, then tied them to the fence in the school playground. 💨
Then we created our own compass roses on the playground with chalk, so we could check the direction of our wind socks 🧭
