BlackBerry Picking

6th Sep 2019

After a long week in P6, learning rules, getting into routines, revising our understanding of place value/ordering numbers, looking at how to write a report, learning not all nouns can be photographed, drawing our own self (Picasso inspired) portraits, doing our KWL on The Vikings, preparing our ICT accounts for the weeks ahead, playing the recorder, throwing and receiving as part of team sports in PE and exploring our understanding of empathy through PDMU, we felt we needed to take our learning outside the classroom.

Inspired by Seamus Heaney's poem of the same name, P6 set off in search of blackberries and what a bountiful harvest we collected! After some estimation work on who collected the most, and washing our 'Blackbeard sticky palms' we set about devouring the fruits of our labour (see what I did there :-)) with ice-cream, crushed digestive and caramel sauce. We didn't have enough time to make our jam, but it is currently boiling on my cooker as I write this and will be ready to spread on the teacher's scones on Monday morning!!!
